Potala Palace is the name of a museum in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China previously a palace of the Bö sovereign in Ü, the Dalai Lama, in the dzong-style, in Lhasa, capital of Bod (བོད་) & historically Ü (དབུས). It was the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas from 1649. In 1959 the Bö government ceased inhabitation because a previous invasion by the People's Republic of China caused transfer of governmental power.
