Natascha Kampusch's Family Shares Health Update Two Decades After Her Escape from Captivity
Saturday, March 14, 2026 - a2zcore.com

The family of Austrian kidnapping survivor Natascha Kampusch says she has largely withdrawn from public life nearly 20 years after escaping eight years of captivity. Her sister described her as living "in a kind of prison again" due to the lasting psychological impact of the ordeal.

Natascha Kampusch, who was abducted in Vienna in 1998 at age 10 and held captive for 3,096 days by Wolfgang Priklopil before escaping in 2006, is reportedly living a largely withdrawn life nearly two decades later. According to her sister Claudia Nestelberger in comments to Austrian broadcaster ORF, Kampusch now spends much of her time isolated and no longer appears publicly as she once did. Kampusch endured years of abuse in a concealed basement in Strasshof an der Nordbahn before escaping and later recounting her experience in the memoir 3096 Days. After her escape she became an activist and public figure, supporting other missing-person cases including that of Madeleine McCann, but family members say the long-term psychological effects of her captivity continue to shape her life.
